NICU Care (Prematurity Support)

Advanced Neonatal Intensive Care for Premature and Critically Ill Newborns

The birth of a baby is one of life's most cherished moments. However, when a newborn arrives prematurely or experiences medical complications immediately after birth, specialised neonatal care becomes essential to ensure the best possible start in life. At International Modern Hospital Dubai, our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides advanced, evidence-based medical care for premature babies, low birth weight infants and newborns requiring intensive monitoring and life-saving treatment.

Our experienced team of neonatologists, pediatricians, neonatal nurses and respiratory therapists work together around the clock to deliver personalised care tailored to each baby's unique medical needs. Equipped with modern neonatal technology and family-centred care practices, our NICU supports newborns through every stage of recovery while keeping parents actively involved in their baby's journey.

Premature babies, especially those born before 37 weeks of pregnancy, often require specialised support because many of their organs—including the lungs, brain, digestive system and immune system—are still developing. The NICU provides a controlled environment where these delicate infants receive continuous monitoring, respiratory support, nutritional management and developmental care until they are strong enough to thrive independently.

Conditions Treated in Our NICU

Our neonatal specialists manage a wide range of complex newborn conditions, including:

Premature birth
Extremely low birth weight babies
Respiratory distress syndrome
Neonatal infections and sepsis
Birth asphyxia
Neonatal jaundice requiring intensive treatment
Congenital abnormalities requiring stabilisation
Feeding difficulties
Neonatal hypoglycaemia
Apnoea of prematurity
Temperature instability
Twin and multiple births requiring neonatal observation
Babies born after high-risk pregnancies

Each newborn receives an individualised treatment plan designed to promote healthy growth while minimising complications associated with premature birth.

Comprehensive NICU Services

Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit offers a full spectrum of neonatal services designed to provide continuous medical support from birth until discharge.

Respiratory Support

Premature infants frequently experience breathing difficulties because their lungs have not fully matured. Our NICU provides advanced respiratory support, including oxygen therapy, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), mechanical ventilation and specialised respiratory monitoring to ensure adequate oxygen delivery while protecting delicate lung tissue.

Temperature Regulation

Premature babies cannot regulate their body temperature effectively. Advanced neonatal incubators maintain optimal warmth, humidity and environmental conditions that mimic the womb, reducing energy expenditure and supporting healthy development.

Nutritional Support

Proper nutrition is critical for premature infants. Depending on the baby's condition, nutrition may be provided through intravenous fluids, feeding tubes or carefully supervised breastfeeding. Our multidisciplinary team works closely with lactation specialists to transition babies safely to oral feeding whenever possible.

Continuous Monitoring

Every infant admitted to the NICU undergoes continuous monitoring of heart rate, breathing, oxygen saturation, blood pressure and temperature. This allows our neonatal specialists to detect changes immediately and intervene promptly when necessary.

Infection Prevention

Premature babies have immature immune systems, making them more vulnerable to infections. Strict infection prevention protocols, sterile procedures and close monitoring help protect newborns throughout their hospital stay.

Family-Centred Neonatal Care

At International Modern Hospital, we recognise that caring for parents is an important part of caring for babies. Our NICU promotes family involvement through regular medical updates, parental education and emotional support. Parents are encouraged to participate in kangaroo care (skin-to-skin contact), feeding and bonding activities whenever medically appropriate.

Our neonatal team guides families through every stage of treatment, ensuring they understand their baby's progress and feel confident caring for their newborn after discharge.
